Gather your pennies! Musicland For Sale.
Another sign of the times and demonstration of the music industry state, Best Buy has announced that they will sell off their Musicland division – now they just need a buyer for the money-loosing operation. The musicland label also includes a number of similar stores – On Cue, Suncoast, and Sam Goody also operate under the musicaland label.
Which makes me wonder – if the major music outlets are suffering this bad, how are the mom & pop operations doing? My gut reaction is that they’d be even worse off – then again, mom & pop operations have always been about the expereince of buying music. The kind of people who are passionate about their local record shop on the corner probably are still going; the Napster and Kazzaa abusers are probably the consumers that the sanitized and redundant mall establishments are now missing.
